Replacing the awful AI with human counterparts really makes this mode shine, but even playing on your own is worth the hassle your idiotic teammates give you. You can even join a club and play against other teams in online leagues. It's reminiscent of days on the playground, where the other kids shout at you for not being any good, even though these guys are now miles away and using microphones. You can't take your own player online, and you aren't given a fixed player, but the pressure to perform is something rarely experienced from an online team game. While the pressure is high playing on your own, it soars when going online in 10 v 10 matches. The AI is rather stupid, running the ball off the pitch on occasion and hinges entirely on your ability to play well - you're likely to see many goalless draws - although that drives you to actually get a result the following match day. You are consistently rated on your position, tackles and passing, and there is a pressure to really perform when you get possession. ![]() Choosing a midfield position puts you in the thick of things, and although you still wait for the ball to come to you, lining up that killer pass while staying onside is no mean feat. However, after trying again with Ronaldo and switching the camera to a better position (the default view looks down the pitch and makes positions impossible to gauge), it clicked. After a run of goalless draws, with a horrific camera and ages waiting for the ball from my greedy, stupid teammates, I nearly put this mode to bed. After creating myself in painstaking detail (six pack included) I played half a season up front for my beloved Aston Villa. You have the choice of creating your own virtual monster or assuming control of a superstar to do your voodoo bidding. The star of the show is the 'Be A Pro: Seasons' mode - controlling a single player through four seasons for club and country, with the goal of becoming a national legend. For once, this update is entirely justified and doesn't come under the veil of diminishing returns that football games usually hide behind. ![]() This year EA decided to go sky high and add a host of new content, from downloadable roster updates and ad-hoc tactical rollouts to playing a single player through his career, while retaining that reinvigorated FIFA experience. And they do, even for something trivial like leg hair physics. So what do you choose - FIFA or Pro Evolution Soccer?įIFA has spent the last few years playing catch up with PES's raw simulation of the beautiful game, and like its bitter rival, trickles out a new feature with each new iteration so punters will part from their cash. It's the battle for the best football game, and there is no middle ground. To some it's more important than any current event or general election, rubbing their hands in glee in October of each year. A tiresome war has been waging for over a decade, ignored by the mass media despite its millions of participants and playground causalities.
